Meet Our Panelists

Dr. Monica Carter, DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), is a Long Term Care Hospice Physician with AuthoraCare Collective. She was previously employed with Piedmont Senior Care and Adult Medicine at Cone Health. She earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003 and completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2006 at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly UMDNJ-SOM) in Stratford, NJ. The oldest of four children raised by a single mother, Dr. Carter was the first in her immediate family to go to college. Dr. Carter says, it was the TV show, “Trapper John, M.D.” that first inspired her to become a doctor. She resides in High Point with her husband and two daughters and in her spare time she enjoys reading, watching movies and traveling.

Felton Wooten is an author and presenter of eldercare topics, abuse prevention of the elderly and caring for people with dementia. He is also the Manager of their family owned farm that has been in the family for over 80 years. Felton has been a license Nursing Home Administrator for over 30 years and was selected Administrator of the Year for NC in 1997. He is a native of Greensboro NC where he resides with his wife.

Melanie Bunn In addition to her work with Dementia Alliance of N, Bunn is a Consulting Associate at the Duke University School of Nursing, and a Trainer at Positive Approach to Care. She also leads her consulting company, Bunn Consulting. Ms. Bunn received her degree in nursing from the UNC-CH, her Master’s degree in Family Health Nursing from Clemson University and a Post-Master’s Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Duke University. She is a skilled and experienced advanced practice nurse and nurse educator, conducting over 200 presentations and trainings annually to health professionals, community organizations, first responders, families and other groups focused on the care and needs of people living with dementia and their families. Her research efforts have focused on improving care of older people, especially those with cognitive impairment, through improving the education of inter-professional teams & families. She has facilitated Alzheimer’s Support groups for 25 years.

Meet Our Moderator

Risa Hanau, LCSW is the Clinical and Community Educator at AuthoraCare Collective. Risa is a seasoned presenter and teacher in the area of end-of-life and ethics. She is a member of the Cone Health Ethics Committee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by training and holds a Master of Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania.
