MEET OUR PANELISTS
Brittany L. Varner, M.Div., BCC is a Board Certified staff Chaplain at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, where she has worked for the past 4 years in the Spiritual Care and Wholeness Department. She is also the primary Chaplain working with the Green Valley Clinic, a clinic that opened through Cone Health to care for critically ill patients with Covid-19.
Ryan Mahler, LCMHC, has worked as a bereavement counselor at AuthoraCare for 12 years. She counsels individual clients, facilitates support groups and conducts workshops, all with the goal of helping people adjust to life after a loss in addition to building connection and validation throughout the process. Ryan holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Matthew Stalnaker, M.Div., BCC serves as a Lead Clinical Chaplain in the Department for Spiritual Care and Wholeness at Cone Health where he provides spiritual care for the patients of Wesley Long Hospital and Behavioral Health Hospital of Greensboro. An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and board-certified through Association of Professional Chaplains, Matthew holds degrees from Campbell University (BA) and The Wake Forest University School of Divinity (MDiv). He completed residency in pastoral care at University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, where he specialized in Neuroscience and Psychiatry.
MEET OUR MODERATOR
Risa Hanau, LCSW is the Director of Education at AuthoraCare Collective. Risa is a seasoned presenter and teacher in the area of end-of-life and ethics. She is a member of the Cone Health Ethics Committee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by training and holds a Master of Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania.
