Understanding comes from knowing. There is a lot of talk about the COVID-19 vaccines. Many have questions, concerns and doubts about their safety, effectiveness and whether or not to even get one. For communities of color, historic events intensify these concerns.
This webinar will explore some of the commonly heard questions and concerns raised by community members and will provide answers from local healthcare experts. Anyone considering the vaccines or wanting to know how to access one will benefit from this program.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the benefits of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine and how to schedule an appointment.
  • Discuss common questions, concerns and barriers to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Explain reasons why getting the COVID-19 vaccine is important personally and for the community.

Meet Our Panelists

Carolyn Harraway-Smith, MD is the Chief Medical Officer for Women’s Heath at Cone Health. She is also a physician partner at the Center for Women’s Healthcare in Greensboro and serves as physician director of the Center for Women’s Healthcare at Cone Health Med Center High Point. She has been with Cone Health since 2013. She is dually board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as family medicine. She says one of the most fulfilling areas of her work involves addressing health care disparities for women of color and other disadvantaged populations. As an extension of her passion for vulnerable populations, Dr. Harraway-Smith works with the Cone Health Physician Council for Health Equity. Additionally, she serves as a co-chair for the Maternal Health Task Force for North Carolina Institute of Medicine and as a physician champion for the North Carolina Maternal Health Committee. Her motto is “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”


Ursula Robinson, LCSW, MHA is the Executive Director of PACE of Guilford and Rockingham Counties, dba PACE of the Triad, located in Greensboro, NC. PACE is an acronym which stands for Program of All-inclusive care for the Elderly. PACE is a integrated, coordinated, person centered, provider led, capitated and fully risk bearing model of care. Driven by objective of maintaining the independence of program participants in their homes and communities for as long as possible; PACE programs are the lifelines that enable frail older Americans to live at home. Ursula served on the planning committee to evaluate the feasibility of the PACE model in Greensboro and was hired as the first Executive Director in 2010. Under Ursula’s leadership, PACE of the Triad is the third largest PACE program in NC and the first PACE program in North Carolina to provide an Alternative Care Setting to serve rural participants. Prior to PACE, Ursula was employed with Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for 18 years.


Kameka Totten, DNP, RN began her 20+ year nursing career as a bedside nurse at Cone Health. She eventually advanced to become a Department Director, and now serves as the Vice President of Nursing, West Campus at AuthoraCare Collective. Kameka obtained her BSN from UNCG. In 2008, she was awarded the Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Zeta BSN Graduate Excellence Award. Additionally, she obtained her Dual Master’s Degree in Business and Health Administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte. She also obtained her ANCC Nurse Executive Board Certification. In May 2018, she completed her Doctoral Degree in Nursing Practice in Nurse Executive at Old Dominion University. Kameka has received Nurse Excellence awards for clinical contributions while at Annie Penn Hospital and additionally was recognized as a 2007 Great 100 Nurse of North Carolina Recipient. She currently serves as a Board Member at Compassion Health Care and as a Board Manager of Carolina Medical Home Network’s Clinical Committee.

Kiva Elliott is a wife, mother, sister and warrior for the underdog. Her faith is at the center of her life and family time, girls night out, long naps and hanging with the locals when traveling brings her joy. She also happens to be the Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer for Cone Health. She has been a leader with Cone Health for over nine years and takes pride in serving the people, patients and communities of the organization. Kiva believes that small actions send a big message & we all have to be willing to stand up, speak up and take action for justice. Curiosity, Courage and Commitment will lead the way.
