Understanding comes from knowing. Many patients, families and caregivers have questions and concerns about how to best navigate a Dementia diagnosis and ongoing care. This webinar will provide information resources, education and advocacy opportunities that are available and how to access them.

Meet Our Speakers

Lisa Levine, BS, CDP is the Director of Education for Dementia Alliance of North Carolina. She is responsible for educational outreach through workshops, conferences, and health and wellness education. Prior to joining the staff of Dementia Alliance, Lisa served as a corporate memory care specialist assisting independent, assisted, and skilled care communities in seven states across the Southeast. After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Psychology from University of Florida, Lisa began working in skilled nursing facilities as an activity director. Thirty years have passed and she continues to work toward improving the quality of life for people living with cognitive impairment and dementia.

 


Karen Owens works with in the Greensboro office of the Alzheimer’s Association as the Education & Family Services Manager. She obtained her Master of Social work through the Joint Master of Social Work program of North Carolina A&T State University and UNC Greensboro. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a minor in human development and family studies from UNC Greensboro. Karen has worked in various mental health settings. Her current role with the Alzheimer’s Association is to provide community education programs, assist with the 24-hour helpline, provide care consultations, and coordinate with and train support group facilitators, as well as Alzheimer’s Community educators.

 


Nicole Reynolds graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 2004 with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She completed her internship at Presbyterian Home of High Point and was hired as their Healthcare Social Worker upon her graduation. She began her journey with Well•Spring in 2008 as the Social Services Coordinator and moved into the Retirement Relocation Associate position in 2013. As Well-Spring expanded its services, Nicole began spending part of her time working with Well-Spring Solutions, and in 2016 became the full-time Lead Navigator. She also is a past president of the Guilford Medical and Dental Managers Association. Nicole loves her work and is dedicated to serving the older adult population and their caregivers.

 


Dora Som-Pimpong was employed at North Carolina A&T State University for 34 years, as a microbiology laboratory manager and public health specialist for the Center for Outreach in Alzheimer’s, Aging, and Community Health (COAACH). She received support group training through the Alzheimer’s Association and was the facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group at the university for two years prior to her retirement. She has received training in dementia care, activity-based caregiving for Alzheimer’s patients, and has participated in a number of other training workshops for caregivers. She has been the primary caregiver for five family members with dementia or cognitive decline. Dora has a consulting practice called “The Best Home Consulting” that supports long-term care facilities in providing excellent care for their residents. Dora has a passion for helping other caregivers in their caregiving journey, encouraging them to use available community resources and to pay special attention to self-care. She and her husband are the founders of a local church, All Nations Evangelical Church. She serves on the Board of Directors for Creative Aging Network-NC. Dora enjoys sewing, teaching sewing, playing the piano, painting and is an avid walker.

Meet Our Moderator

Risa Hanau, LCSW is the Clinical and Community Educator at AuthoraCare Collective. Risa is a seasoned presenter and teacher in the area of end-of-life and ethics. She is a member of the Cone Health Ethics Committee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by training and holds a Master of Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania.
