Heart Disease Patients

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 5.5% of American adults report having a heart disease diagnosis. The term “heart disease” encompasses many different conditions affecting heart function. Common types of heart disease include coronary artery disease, heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), heart failure, heart valve disease, congenital heart disease and heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy). Many of these conditions gradually worsen, while others like a heart attack cause damage instantly.

AuthoraCare can help you or your loved one by providing care and strategies to improve quality of life as you cope with physical symptoms, psychological needs and emotional distress due to cardiac disease.

Palliative Care for Heart Disease

The goal of palliative care is to help patients and families achieve a better quality of life by assisting with advance care planning, relieving symptoms of heart disease and establishing goals of care. As care needs increase, patients or their caregivers may choose to receive palliative care while also receiving treatment for their heart disease symptoms. This can optimize outcomes for both patient and their caregivers.

If you or your loved one has been diagnosed with a type of heart disease, you may be a candidate for receiving palliative care. Read more about palliative care here, or contact AuthoraCare’s palliative care team.

Hospice Care for Heart Disease

Hospice care helps patients coping with end-stage terminal heart disease by providing care to address the mental, emotional and physical distress caused by their illness. Heart disease patients who are admitted to AuthoraCare’s hospice program will receive expert, in-home medical care to help them live with dignity and provide comfort as their disease progresses. Click here to learn more about the benefits of hospice care.

Heart disease can be caused by blood flow restriction, heart muscle weakness, electrical disturbances, heart valve function or structural abnormalities. As such, symptoms of heart disease vary depending on the type of heart disease from which the patient is suffering. The most common types of end-stage heart disease are advanced congestive heart failure and advanced coronary disease. No matter the type of heart disease, there are several common symptoms that indicate potential eligibility for hospice care.
